American Academy of Innovation (AAI)

The American Academy of Innovation (AAI) is a 33,000-square-foot school in Daybreak, South Jordan, Utah, serving grades 6-12. Opened in fall 2016, the school focuses on project-based learning, career and technical education (CTE), and partnerships with international universities, preparing students for a global marketplace. Its design combines bold, modern aesthetics with functionality, reflecting its innovative educational approach.

Babcock Design worked with the school board, developer, and Rio Tinto to create a facility that meets educational needs while following Daybreak community standards. The exterior features masonry, metal panels, stucco, and vibrant color accents for a distinct visual identity. Outdoor spaces, including a soccer field and gathering areas, complement the school’s collaborative culture.

A two-story lobby at the center of the building connects students to classrooms and activity areas. The layout enhances accessibility, interaction, and project-based learning. The American Academy of Innovation stands as a landmark within a growing community, embodying the aspirations of its students and stakeholders.
